This is one of my best friends’ babies. In her hands is a custom order from someone who’s friend lost her son to suicide last week. A son who was this age once. A son who was fiercely loved and valued and squeezed tight. A son who will always be their baby. My heart cannot fathom the overwhelming grief. Our only hope? To lift our eyes to the One who is our help in every season and situation. Jesus, come quickly.
It seems the Lord is teaching me a deeper (more experiential) meaning of what Paul talks about when he describes servants of God as “sorrowful, yet always rejoicing” (2 Corinthians 6:10a). • You see, there is so much good happening. So much joy, provision, and depth of community. So many doors opening. So many opportunities to minister and be ministered to. So much love and humility and grace and kindness and care that it has made me—quite literally—cry into a plate of chicken and waffles from the mercy of it all. • These scattered beams can only be explained by the Lord, who is dropping joy bombs and grace explosions all around. • But it’s not all chicken and waffles. • (Link to blog post in profile ❤️)
“All in all, it was a never-to-be forgotten summer—one of those summers which comes seldom into any life, but leave a rich heritage of beautiful memories in their going—one of those summers which, in a fortunate combination of delightful weather, delightful friends, and delightful doings, come as near to perfection as anything can come in this world.” -L.M. Montgomery
“[It is] as if [David] had said, Separated from God I am nothing, and all that I attempt to do ends in nothing; but when I come to Him, I find an abundant supply of strength. It is highly necessary for us to consider what we are without God; for no man will cast himself wholly upon God, but he who feels himself in a fainting condition, and who despairs of the sufficiency of his own powers. We will seek nothing from God but what we are conscious of wanting in ourselves. ...the reason why God is represented as a portion is, because He alone is abundantly sufficient for us, and because in Him the perfection of our happiness consists.” -John Calvin, on Psalm 73:26

Monday Morning Munch No. 33 – Three Week Countdown

“Through (Jesus Christ) we have received grace and apostleship to bring about the obedience of faith for the sake of His name among all the nations.” –Romans 1:5

Three weeks.

Twenty-one days.

504 hours (give or take a few).

That’s when we leave.

Excited doesn’t even begin to cover the emotions I have for Real Truth Matters’s upcoming two-week trip to Eastern Europe on April 8th.

If you add in:

Unbelievably blessed

You might have a better understanding of my feelings. But any way you look at it, I’m excited to see God work.

What we’re doing5missions

Michael Durham, my pastor, boss, second dad and director of Real Truth Matters (so many titles), will be preaching/teaching/hosting four conferences aimed at discipling pastors so they can, in turn, disciple church planters and carry out the Great Commission according to God’s Word in the countries of Romania and the Republic of Moldova.

Through these conferences and meetings, we will also be launching the Romania Missionary Fellowship. You can read more about this exciting (!!!) new ministry when you read Bro. Michael’s blog post by clicking here.

My co-worker and friend, Joseph Durham, and I will be doing the audio and video for these conferences to put online for pastors unable to attend so they can also learn and mature more in their faith as they seek to advance the kingdom of God and shake the gates of hell. Through our time there I’ll also be updating everyone back home with blogs, FB and Twitter updates and pictures.

What you can do

Please pray for us.

  • Pray that God would be glorified and His Gospel would go forth declaring His glory (literally) among the nations.
  • Pray for Bro. Michael as he prepares these next several weeks and as he teaches that God’s Spirit would be the One doing the talking.
  • Pray for the translator and Director of the Romania Missionary Fellowship, Florin Vasilu, as he and Bro. Michael work alongside each other to disciple these men.
  • Pray for travel and energy for us (travel there and back will be essentially a two-day event).
  • Pray that people would be saved and that those saved would mature in their faith and begin to disciple others.

If you feel led to give financially, that would be a huge blessing as it costs $3,500 for plane tickets for the three of us, not counting the added expenses of hosting four conferences and travel once we get to Romania.

Needless to say we need God to help us. I am praying that He moves on you to do what you can to help us begin this missionary movement that is based upon the simple method of the apostles, “And the things that you have heard from me among many witnesses, commit these to faithful men who will be able to teach others also” (2 Timothy 2:2). The early church’s evangelism was centered on planting churches where the Gospel was not. That is all we are trying to do. –Michael Durham

If you believe the Lord is leading to give to this ministry, you can go here and make a donation. Please note on your donation that it is for RMF (Romania Missionary Fellowship). Or you can send your check to Oak Grove Baptist Church, 2945 Oaks Rd., Paducah, Ky. 42003. Please memo your check RMF.

For to this end we toil and strive, because we have our hope set on the living God, who is the Savior of all people, especially of those who believe. –1 Timothy 4:10
