This is one of my best friends’ babies. In her hands is a custom order from someone who’s friend lost her son to suicide last week. A son who was this age once. A son who was fiercely loved and valued and squeezed tight. A son who will always be their baby. My heart cannot fathom the overwhelming grief. Our only hope? To lift our eyes to the One who is our help in every season and situation. Jesus, come quickly.
It seems the Lord is teaching me a deeper (more experiential) meaning of what Paul talks about when he describes servants of God as “sorrowful, yet always rejoicing” (2 Corinthians 6:10a). • You see, there is so much good happening. So much joy, provision, and depth of community. So many doors opening. So many opportunities to minister and be ministered to. So much love and humility and grace and kindness and care that it has made me—quite literally—cry into a plate of chicken and waffles from the mercy of it all. • These scattered beams can only be explained by the Lord, who is dropping joy bombs and grace explosions all around. • But it’s not all chicken and waffles. • (Link to blog post in profile ❤️)
“All in all, it was a never-to-be forgotten summer—one of those summers which comes seldom into any life, but leave a rich heritage of beautiful memories in their going—one of those summers which, in a fortunate combination of delightful weather, delightful friends, and delightful doings, come as near to perfection as anything can come in this world.” -L.M. Montgomery
“[It is] as if [David] had said, Separated from God I am nothing, and all that I attempt to do ends in nothing; but when I come to Him, I find an abundant supply of strength. It is highly necessary for us to consider what we are without God; for no man will cast himself wholly upon God, but he who feels himself in a fainting condition, and who despairs of the sufficiency of his own powers. We will seek nothing from God but what we are conscious of wanting in ourselves. ...the reason why God is represented as a portion is, because He alone is abundantly sufficient for us, and because in Him the perfection of our happiness consists.” -John Calvin, on Psalm 73:26

Monday Morning Munch No. 48 – For Your Encouragement

IMG_2706At the beginning of the summer I made a list of summer goals, things I wanted to accomplish this summer. There was a reading list and different activities listed and I’ve been steadily marking things off the list.

I love lists.

Then about four weeks ago I started my Monday morning by making a list of goals I wanted to accomplish that week. Since then, it has become an every Monday morning practice.

Do you make weekly goals?

If so, I’d like to add one to your list.

July august real truth matters magazineRead Real Truth Matters Magazine.

I’m not just saying that because I’m the assistant editor or because I wrote some of the articles; I’m saying that because I believe in this magazine.

Maybe I should say it this way: I believe in the God who runs this magazine, who inspires its stories and articles and who has set up countless interviews for us.

This magazine was birthed after the Lord gave us the idea.

Its purpose?

To equip, encourage, challenge and motivate Christ-followers around the world to a greater pursuit of Jesus Christ, who is the Gospel.

You can get a better look at the magazine through this video from the editor featured in the July/August magazine, which was released this week:

In this issue:

Take a walk through history with a glimpse into Dietrich Bonhoeffer’s life, curl up to read articles by Elisabeth Elliot and Charles Spurgeon, uncover the true meaning of repentance, read of a Bible smuggler and persecuted Christians, and be warned about the new pulpit fashion. All this and more can be experienced when you download the July/August Real Truth Matters Magazine.

Thus far the iPad apps for the first five issues of the magazine have been downloaded in the U.S. and around the world in more than 35 countries including countries closed to the Gospel. We are overwhelmed by the Lord making a way for the Gospel to enter places around the world declared “closed” to His Word.

That’s how passionate He is about His glory and His name reaching every tribe and tongue.

Please join us in prayer for the going forth of God’s Word through the magazine and for all readers to be pushed to the cross of Christ.

Thank you for helping us spread the word about this new resource and the Gospel of Christ! Together we can join God in wrapping His arms around the nations.

“In this edition of the RTM Magazine, we make an effort to stir up a desire for genuine, red-hot, determined, unshakable faith in the One true God and His Savior, Jesus Christ. This is our ministry: to tell men and women the real truth about themselves and God. We appreciate your help as you join us to sound the alarm. This magazine is only a trumpet. Its sound is going farther and farther with each issue. May God be praised and our readers blessed.” -Michael Durham, editor RTM Magazine
