Follow me as I follow Jesus

We get married in 12 days.

I can’t really wrap my head around that fact. Our engagement season has seemed both never-ending and crazy-short. But here we are, hearts full of committed love to walk with each other through the highs and lows and joys and sorrows of this life, and to rejoice in the Lord whether fruit be on the vine or its all stripped bare and the fields yield no food (Habakkuk 3:17-19).

There is still quite a bit of uncertainty surrounding the logistics of our wedding day and the details therein. We are, for sure, not experts at dating or marriage or life. We don’t know what will happen in five minutes much less five, 10, or 25 years or if we’ll even be around to see it. We don’t know if tragedy will come to our family or if we’ll ever get to celebrate pregnancy or childbirth. We don’t know if jobs will be sustained or our bank accounts will be emptied. We don’t know what the Lord will ordain for our lives.

But this is what we know for sure: Jesus is better than all of it.

Jesus is better than marriage. Jesus is better than singleness. And having Jesus is better than having each other.

While Drew is my best friend and favorite human, he is not my Messiah and I can never be his. Jesus is the only One sufficient for the task and His Gospel is enough to feed our souls and provide rest even when our circumstances and the world around us try to convince otherwise.

When the dress is white and the music plays and vows are given: Jesus is better.
When the clothes are black and the music fades and the flowers are laid on the grave: Jesus is better.

In life or death. In sickness and health. For richer or poorer. Jesus is better.
